Ice Hockey

A national pastime in Sweden, most towns have a vested interest in the local ice hockey team. The sport is taught in schools from an early age and is very popular. Aylvsbyn has a superb ice hockey stadium with a cafe and viewing gallery. The local team plays every Saturday afternoon from late August to the end of February home or away. The game usually starts at 2.30pm and finishes at about 4.30pm. Based on three sessions, this thrilling spectator sport has everything. The total commitment, skill and speed on ice is well worth watching. There is a small takeaway restaurant just outside the stadium where you can warm up afterwards!!

In the town of Luleå, 45 minutes by car from the house there is a well known Ice Hockey team that plays in the national league. These games are played usually in the evenings on a Saturday. There is an English style pub called the Bishops Arms in (Statens Hotel) Luleå where you can go for a drink. You may want to spend the night in Luleå to see the town after a game. The night life is active with the universty close by which has a young population.
